CORE PILLARS

Self-care has impacted me the most because it set precedence for me to harness education and economic empowerment.

PILLAR ONE : EDUCATION

I don't think of myself as a poor deprived ghetto girl who made good. I think of myself as somebody who from an early age knew I was responsible for myself, and I had to make good. - Oprah Winfrey

Our experience at The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls opened our eyes to the significance that education has with our legacy. It is the gateway to a new life. Every person deserves access to an education.

Education is what God used to change the trajectory of my life…although I grew up in poverty, education opened up doors and opportunities for me that I didn’t know existed, and my reality now is far different from my beginning.

PILLAR THREE: ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT

Fashion Designer, Nandipa Madikiza, inspired us with her passion and commitment as an entrepreneur in South Africa. We were so excited when she whipped out her measuring tape to take orders for custom designs. She was prepared, equipped, and grateful for the opportunity.

It was so inspiring to support and hear Chez Alina's story of entrepreneurship as a restaurant owner in Soweto, South Africa. She runs a family owned establishment with authentic African dishes and constantly pours back into her community.

Economic Empowerment equips us to provide new opportunities and financial freedom for our families and community. Entrepreneurship has served as my gateway to discovering the importance of self-care and continued education.
